Nell Lamar Solomon
July 3, 1936 - February 20, 2026

Nell Lamar Solomon, 89, of Spanish Fort, AL, passed away on February 20, 2026. She was born on July 3, 1936, in Marianna, FL, to Benjamin L. and Nell Solomon.

Lamar graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in education and completed two master’s degrees in education and special education at the University of Maryland and George Washington University respectively. She taught for more than 30 years in Florida, Ohio and Maryland.

She was known for her commitment, organizational skills, her sharp wit and her love of dogs, especially standard poodles. In the 1980’s she began breeding standard poodles, some of which became champion show and obedience dogs. She was active in the Catoctin Kennel Club in the Frederick, MD area for many years including serving as club president for more than 20 years.

Lamar is survived by her niece Susan Moore, her great niece Elizbeth Stewart, her great nephew Ronnie Moore and five great, great nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her sister Eva Ann Swofford and her nephew Jimmy Swofford.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
