Class Descriptions

   Puppy (4 to 6 months)

This class is designed to introduce puppies to new surroundings, new people and other animals. Behavioral characteristics of young puppies as well as health and nutritional needs will be discussed. Beginning obedience activities will be introduced.
  Basic Fundamentals / Manners
This class is developing a trust between you and your dog so that you can work as a team. Concepts taught include target, sit, down, wait, stay and come. Dogs will learn manners. Manners taught include waiting, leave it, loose leash walking, meeting and greeting people and dogs, sit quietly at your side. Work on Canine Good Citizen Skills.
  Basic For Competition
Building skill for the obedience competition ring. More formal training than the basic fundamentals class. Introduce Beginner Novice and work on Canine Good Citizen skills.
  Advanced Basic - CGC
This class continues working and building skills taught in Basic Fundamentals / Manners and prepares students for the Canine Good Citizens Test.  This class may be repeated several times until the desired level of control is achieved.
  Advanced Basic
Continue formal training preparing for the obedience ring. It provides the foundation for the Novice level. This class may be repeated several times. 
Students in the Novice class begin the final preparation for actively competing in AKC Obedience Trials.  Classes will include heeling and staying exercises and rule book interpretation.  Dogs must be able to work on a loose lead and complete Novice Level (CD) stay exercises to be eligible for this class.  This class may be repeated several times.
For students attempting to earn a CDX title.  Exercises appropriate for the degree are taught.  Retrieving skills, drop on recall and rule book interpretation are part of these classes.
Open to students (with permission from Lamar) who are learning the exercises necessary to complete both an Open and Utility title.
Open to students who are working on their Utility title or those who are already trialing in Utility.
